This clip from the BBC’s new documentary Spy in the Wild captures a wild orangutan teaching herself how to use a hand saw.
Using the opposable thumb, just like us humans, she starts sawing away at tree branches like it’s just the normal thing to do in the wild.
When a robotic orangutan is placed near her cutting its own branch, the female starts to saw with more momentum to compete with the robot.
Eventually, like most of us, the orangutan gets tired of all the sawing and gives up.
