Hollywood residents awoke New Year’s day to find possibly one of the world’s most famous signs had been altered to read “Hollyweed.”
The male suspect was video recorded changing the sign around 3 a.m according to Lt. Guy Juneau from the Los Angeles Police Department.
Wearing all black, the vandal climbed onto each of the sign’s “O” letters, according to the lieutenant. He the draped the letters with black tarps, so they appeared as the letter “e.”
Astonished tourists watched as park rangers removed the tarps, returning the iconic sign read its proper text.
“I thought we came to see the Hollywood sign, not the ‘Hollyweed’ sign,” said Bruce Quinn. “But hey, it’s OK with me.”
If caught, the vandal is facing a misdemeanor trespassing charge, according to the LAPD.
